Unwanted Hero, part 1

The Unwanted Hero is a single-player text-based RPG with a fairy tale flavor and randomized elements. It comes in a gamebook-like format, and can be played online or off. See the built-in help for more details.

This is a coffeebreak game, that can be completed in about 15 minutes once you're familiar with it (some amount of replayability is provided). Beware that it ends on a cliffhanger: only part 1 exists as of June 2021.

The April 2023 release fixes an unfinished passage at the end of the ruin encounter, and has updated help text.

System requirements: Any modern web browser, in principle. Tested in Firefox 78, Opera 68+, and the Android WebView starting from version 5. Screen size minimum: 800x480; recommended: 1024x768 or more.

For developers: As stated in the credits, The Unwanted Hero is made with Tweego and released under the Artistic License 2.0 (a copy is included in the source archive). You can compile the game with no special options. It requires the SugarCube 2.3.0 story format at a minimum.
